Ashes in the Parking Lot

Pastor Suloff will be in the church parking lot from 12:30 to 1:30 distributing both ashes and Communion. If it is raining Pastor Suloff will be in the Narthex just inside the red doors.

Ash Wednesday Worship

Join us at 7pm as we gather for a shared worship service with our sisters and brothers in Christ from Grace Lutheran, Wyndmoor and Christ Ascension, Chestnut Hill for the beginning of the Lenten season. Our worship service will be held at St. Peter's both in person and live-streamed on Facebook Live. If you plan on joining us for worship online the worship bulletin can be found using the button above and instructions for making ashes at home can be found below. If you would like to assist in the worship service as an usher, greeter, or worship assistant please contact Pastor Suloff.

Create your own ashes

Creating your own ashes can be a very introspective and meaningful way to start the Lenten Season. Lent is a penitential season, a time to look inward, a time to examine your heart, a time to consider your relationship with God. The ashes we receive on Ash Wednesday remind us of our sinfulness, they remind us of our mortality and they remind us that we have been redeemed. Write a prayer to the Lord asking for forgiveness for your sins. Then take that piece of paper and put it in something safe to burn in. You can also add your palms if you still have them from Palm Sunday last year. It may take some time to burn everything down to ashes, use this time for prayer and reflection. Once you have your ashes, add a few drops of olive oil. Mix it together with your finger or thumb. Then use your thumb to make the sign of the cross on your own forehead and those in your household. While you make the sign of the cross say “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” Following the imposition of ashes, take a moment for prayer and reflection upon our lives on this earth and the love and grace of God shown to us through Christ our Lord.
